Info and Care

Jewellery is commonly coated with another white metal called Rhodium. Rhodium is a metal very similar to platinum and Rhodium shares many of the properties of platinum including its white color.

The rhodium plating is used to make the white gold and silver look more white. The natural color of white gold and silver is actually a light grey color. The Rhodium is very white and very hard, but it does wear away eventually. To keep a white gold ring looking its best it should be re-rhodium plated approximately each 2 years to 3 months months. Most local jewellers are able to rhodium plate jewellery for a cost effective price.

Rhodium is also an element and a precious metal. In fact, it’s about ten times as costly as gold! But it is not a feasible material to make solid jewelry from because it is too stressed and brittle, and it can’t be “worked” properly for jewelry making. But rhodium is fabulous as plating for jewelry because it is glitteringly, dazzlingly, white and mirror-like. It’s like chrome, only more so, and much whiter.

Most of our products are White gold plated (rhodium plated) rhodium plating is used to make the white gold look whiter, and have the reflected appeal

If you image your jewellery like a cake, the icing will be white gold, and the sponge will be silver, the rhodium will start to wear off in 2-3 years however as its silver underneath you could not really tell the difference!!!

Rhodium plating makes diamonds look bigger and better because it’s so bright that it’s hard to tell where the stones end and the metal begins. Nothing sets off diamonds like rhodium plating does — but it is only a plating and therefore it will wear off and require replating.

Don’t worry you can still have a bath go swinning, stay in the sun long with your piece of jewellery, however this does take a small affect on your jewellery, but with everything you buy you still have to maintain and look after it for it to be its best and jewellery is not different, i.e you have to wash your clothes and service your car.

Also stuff like your body chemistry will affect how long it last. One thing we would recommend is when you are not using is keep it in a seal tight plastic bag, as this slows the oxygen down from reacting to the metal.

Try to avoid rubber and scathing of the jewellery.
